How to wash a quilt?

Дата публикации: 18.07.2019

     If you do not see obvious dirt on the blanket, it does not mean that it is not there. Bed accessories are saturated with sweat, vapors, rubbed with sebum even through the thickest duvets. The filler can absorb unpleasant odors or become a shelter for insects, so washing the blanket is necessary. The only question is how to properly clean it at home so as not to spoil it.

Machine wash

     Most blankets can be cleaned in a home washing machine if you follow the manufacturer's recommendations on which mode and with which detergents they can be washed. Usually this is a delicate (hand) wash at a temperature of 30 ° C. Be careful - blankets made of wool (camel, sheep) are especially sensitive to heat, and already at 35 ° C they lose their flexibility, collapsing into a dense, rough layer.

     Features of washing a blanket in a washing machine:

     - check the integrity of the cover;

     - placing the blanket in the drum, fold it 2-3 times and twist it with a roll for uniform washing and rinsing;

     - leave part of the drum empty, do not overload the machine;

     - use detergents recommended for the filler;

     - prefer liquid means.

      You can reduce the portion of gel (especially with a strong perfume) - detergents are not well rinsed from large objects. The second option -  use additional rinsing.

     Wringing is much more difficult - blanket fillers consist mainly of fibers, the vulnerable point of which is the tendency to form lumps. To prevent the filler from shifting during washing, several large tennis balls are added to the drum of the washing machine. Spinning should be done at low speeds, and best of all - by hand, not twisting, but squeezing out moisture.

     Dry blankets spread out on a horizontal surface, because in a suspended state, the wet filler slides down (especially if it is not densely quilted). Avoid direct sunlight, and in no case dry the blanket with heating devices - so its natural fibers will dry out and begin to crumble.

     Feather models cannot be machine washed - it is better to take them to the dry cleaners.

Hand wash

     A bulky product (for example, a cotton blanket) is easier and safer to clean by hand, as it can overload the machine and lead to damage. For hand washing (especially delicate accessories), use neutral, mild detergents and warm water. If the manufacturer allows, you can use pre-soaking.

     The technology is as follows: dilute the gel in water, rinse the product, treat particularly dirty areas with a sponge and rinse several times under the shower. Squeeze out moisture without twisting and dry in the same way on a horizontal surface.

     In order for the blanket to last for a long time:

     - change bed linen on time;

     - ventilate and dry them regularly;

     - use microwash for small stains.

     It is not necessary to wash the blanket often - excessive processing violates the natural protection of natural materials, synthetic analogues also wear out.
